In order to implement the items of the university`s Frendly Campus strategy, the Institute of Natural Sciences and Geography follows the principles of green development (Green Campus) and the Sustainable Development Goals in its development.
For example, on March 29, 2023 an event was held titled "Clean Water, Key to Health" aimed at implementing the Sustainable Development Goal "Clean Water and Sanitation" on World Water Day, which is celebrated annually on March 22. Students of geography-history, ecology, biology and chemistry specialties reported on the importance of each student and teacher having access to clean water. The 3rd year students of the speciality 6B05202-Ecology, Altynbaeva Aidana, Kyzaihan Aigerim, Zhumagali Nazerke provided statistics on 6th Sustainable Development Goal (Clean Water and Sanitation), drinking water deficit and water consumption. Students counted the number of plastic bottles thrown away by our students in 1 day, 1 month and 1 year when using bottled water. The speakers urged the students to switch to a rational model of consumption.
The 1st year students of the speciality 6B01516-Geography-History, Diana Akhmetjanova, Alim Amir shared interesting information about water, the 3rd year students of the speciality 6B01513-Biology, Zeinep Duisenbekovna, Bekmurzina Tlekshi showed the results of water quality research in three areas of Almaty to identify the impact of drinking water on the body. The 2nd year students of the speciality "6В05301-Chemistry" Imangali Alina, Perdebay Aruzhan, Romanova Shattykjamal, Belgoja Nurshat, Valerianova Tolkyn, Naknavina Marzhan and the 3rd year student Seitkabulova Albinais showed to the participants laboratory works on determination of composition and quality of drinking water, consumed daily by the population of the city.
At the end of the event, Clara Isakova, Vice-rector for administrative and financial activities of Abai KazNPU, and Kaimuldinova Kulyash, director of the Institute of Natural History and Geography, thanked the organisers and students. Next, the opening ceremony of a filtered drinking fountain "AquaPoint" was held at the University`s campus. The feature of this device is that it makes ordinary water suitable for drinking, filtering it, which is convenient for use (students, university staff can pour it into their own containers) and reduces the consumption of plastic bottles, harmful to the environment. After the event, the participants planted spruce seedlings in order to green the university campus.
A great contribution to the event was made by the Deputy Director for Science and International Cooperation of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Geography K.Muzdybaeva, teachers of the departments "Chemistry", "Biology", "Geography and Ecology" I.Rayymbekova, R.Iskakova, M.Akhtaeva, J.Zharylkasynova.
