Abai University is the first higher education institution in Kazakhstan, boasting a rich history of over 95 years. Founded in 1928, it began as the Kazakh State University with a single faculty comprising three departments: physics-mathematics, natural sciences, and linguistics-pedagogy. Since its inception, the university has undergone significant evolution, expanding to include seven faculties, one institute, and a foundation.

In 1930, the university was transformed into the Kazakh State Pedagogical Institute, and in 1935, it was named after the great Kazakh philosopher, poet, and educator Abai Kunanbayev. On September 26, 2003, it was renamed Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, officially recognizing its status as a national higher education institution and highlighting its importance in the country's education system.

Today, Abai KazNPU serves as a major scientific and educational center, offering programs in pedagogy, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. Its infrastructure includes 10 campuses covering a total area of 325,871 m², six of which are within walking distance of each other, along with four major campuses located in the heart of Almaty. 4o mini

The university is situated in a picturesque and ecologically clean area of Almaty, at the foothills of the Zailiyskiy Alatau mountains, surrounded by green forests and landscaped parks. This region is characterized by a dry, sharply continental climate with distinct seasons, featuring hot summers and dry, cold winters.
Almaty, located in the southeast of Kazakhstan, is regarded as the cultural capital of the country. With a population of over 2 million people and an area of 683.5 km², it combines modern urban infrastructure with a rich natural environment.

The main campus of the university houses the Faculty of Philology, as well as the administrative staff and university governance. Covering a total area of 11,364.80 m², the campus is equipped with all the necessary amenities for comfortable living. It features benches for relaxation, a beautiful fountain, and walking paths that create a cozy atmosphere. The campus is lush with greenery, thanks to its expansive park, which has become a favorite spot for students and staff alike. This park is often used for student plein airs and serves as a popular place for rest and socializing, fostering a sense of community within the university.

Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography

The history of the Faculty dates back to the very first days of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, beginning in 1928. Located in the historical campus covering 12,235.70 m², students study various educational programs, including disciplines related to ecology. The faculty comprises three departments staffed by highly qualified faculty members. It initiates, develops, and implements projects and research in the field of sustainable development, contributing to both academic knowledge and practical solutions for contemporary challenges.

Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts is the successor of the artistic and graphic education and the first specialized institution for professional arts education in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The history of the institute began in 1969, making it over fifty years old. Currently, the institute trains specialists in creative fields at a high level, focusing on both professional and academic directions. The campus covers an area of 2,008 m², providing a dedicated space for artistic exploration and education.

Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology

The Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology was established in 1999 by merging two existing faculties: Defectology and Psychological-Pedagogical Education. Since then, the faculty has been actively engaged in training specialists in the fields of pedagogy and psychology, ensuring a high level of education and scientific research. The campus covers an area of 2,455.50 m², providing a conducive environment for learning and professional development.

Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute

The Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute was established in 2014 through collaboration between Abai KazNPU and the University of Sorbonne-Paris-Cité (Université Sorbonne-Paris-Cité). It plays a key role in French-language education in Central Asia and actively collaborates with leading universities, offering unique educational opportunities and fostering cultural exchange.
The Institute's campus covers 2,431,70 m² and provides excellent facilities for students, including modern classrooms, accessible Wi-Fi, free coworking spaces, and a café that create a comfortable learning environment. Surrounded by greenery and located near a park that has become popular among students and staff, the campus offers a pleasant atmosphere. Its convenient location next to public transport stops simplifies commuting and ensures a high level of safety.

Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics

The Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science (FMPhCS) was founded in 1928 as the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. It became one of the first faculties of the university, starting with the Department of "Engineering, physics, and mathematics," which comprised nine members. The mission of the faculty is to train highly qualified educators and specialists in mathematics, physics, and computer science, based on advanced methods, national heritage, and international approaches.
The faculty's campus covers 6,977,9 m² and offers modern facilities for education and research. It features well-equipped classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, and computer rooms, enabling students to gain practical skills in their fields. There are also cozy relaxation areas where students can socialize and exchange ideas. The spacious library provides access to a wide range of resources essential for academic and research activities.

Faculty of History and Law

One of the university's first structural divisions, founded in 1934, was the Faculty of History, which later evolved into the Faculty of History and Law. Today, it is part of Abai KazNPU and focuses on providing high-quality education. The campus covers an area of 7,071.20 m² and offers modern facilities for teaching and research. Equipped classrooms and specialized labs enhance the effectiveness of the learning process.

Foundation Faculty

The Foundation Faculty plays a vital role in the educational system of Abai KazNPU. It was established to prepare international students for successful studies at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The primary goal of the faculty is to assist both international and local students in language training and to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to continue their education. The campus of the faculty covers an area of 3,830.40 m², providing a conducive environment for learning and development.

Faculty of Physical Education and Basic Military Training

The campus of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Initial Military Training spans an area of 166,486 m², with the faculty itself occupying 17,937 m². Classes are also held at the M. Auezov Educational and Sports Complex.
Founded in the 2009-2010 academic year, the Faculty of Physical Culture and Initial Military Training at Abai KazNPU emerged from the Department of Preschool and Primary Education. It comprises two departments: Physical Culture and Sports, and Initial Military Training. The faculty aims to prepare qualified specialists who can successfully work in various countries around the world.

M. Auezov Educational and Sports Complex

The Educational and Sports Complex at Abai KazNPU includes a large stadium and a cycling track, providing excellent conditions for the educational processes and training of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports, as well as Initial Military Training. These facilities facilitate the development of skills in team sports and cycling, enhancing students' physical training and promoting an active lifestyle.

Abai Student Center

This vibrant and modern space is designed to foster and realize creative potential. The coworking center attracts students with its cozy atmosphere, providing an environment conducive to studying and idea exchange. Comfortable rooms for debates and university clubs enliven student life, allowing everyone to find their calling and express their creativity.
The music room fills the space with sound, inspiring the creation of new artworks, while the upper floor features a psychological support center and a Young Akyns Center, where poets can share their talents and receive support. The classrooms are thoughtfully designed, equipped with stylish furniture and an interactive DigiTouch BB-86 panel with a document camera, transforming learning into an engaging and interactive adventure.
