Waste (WS)

Program for Reducing Paper and Plastic Use on Campus

The university has developed and is currently implementing a program aimed at effective waste management. Step by step, concrete actions are being taken to reduce the use of plastic and paper.

Aim of the Program: To minimize waste, raise awareness among students and staff about the importance of waste management, and create sustainable practices on campus.

Initiatives within the Program

Digitalization of Documents: The university is implementing the digitalization of documents through the Salem Office and Univer programs. This process aims to convert paper documents into electronic formats, significantly simplifying their storage and access.

Reusable Mugs, Thermoses, and Eco-Bags: The university actively promotes initiatives for using reusable mugs, thermoses, and eco-bags to reduce waste and increase environmental responsibility among students and staff. Students and staff can use reusable mugs and thermoses for beverages in university cafes and dining halls, as well as at water fountains located on each campus. This helps reduce the number of single-use cups and bottles. The program for distributing reusable shopping bags encourages students to use them instead of plastic bags. These measures contribute to fostering a culture of sustainable consumption and environmental responsibility within the university community.

Book Exchange and Donation: The university organizes programs for book exchange and donation aimed at creating a cultural environment and encouraging reading among students and staff, while also reducing waste. This helps decrease the number of unwanted books and promotes their reuse, thereby contributing to waste reduction.

Implementation of Eco-Boxes: Inorganic waste is collected and sorted into three containers: for plastic, aluminum, and paper. After sorting, the waste is sent to a local recycling center. In addition to these recycling operations, the university periodically launches campaigns to promote conscious and careful consumption, fostering a culture of waste reduction and reuse.
