On December 5, 2023, the results of the international rating UI GreenMetric 2023, focused on «green» development, were published. There are 1183 universities from around the world in the ranking, with 18 from Kazakhstan. Such a wide representation of participants indicates an increase in awareness and commitment to sustainable development goals.
The world primacy belongs to the Wageningen University & Research (WUR) university and research center in the Netherlands, specializing in life sciences with an emphasis on agriculture, technical, and engineering subjects.
Abai University also demonstrates commitment to the implementation of sustainable development goals and took 822nd place in the rating, respectively 10th place among domestic universities.
The rating is based on three pillars: environmental, economic, and social activities, with an assessment of six indicators: Setting and Infrastructure; Energy and Climate Change; Waste; Water; Transportation; and Education and Research. According to this methodology, Abai University`s best indicators are education and research in the field of SDGs and sustainable transport.
It should be noted that UI GreenMetric is a reputable and well-known innovation from the University of Indonesia (UI), known as the world`s first ranking of higher schools, based on a high commitment to sustainable management.
