Faculty members of Abai KazNPU have completed the online professional development course "Education for Sustainable Development", developed by Teachers Lab in close cooperation with experts from the UNESCO Almaty Office and organised by the UNESCO Chair in Pedagogy and Teacher Training.
Sustainable development cannot be achieved solely through technology, political regulation or financial mechanisms. Humanity needs to change the way of thinking and behaviour. This in turn requires quality education and learning for sustainable development at all levels and regardless of social conditions.
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is designed to help find constructive and creative solutions to present and future global challenges and to increase the resilience of societies.
UNESCO is globally recognised as the lead agency for ESD, playing a central role in the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted in 2015 by UN Member States. In this context, a course on the Sustainable Development Goals has been developed to raise awareness and knowledge of sustainable development issues, as well as suggest concrete actions that can be taken to create a more sustainable world.
