On 31 October 2018, at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University was held an international workshop «Higher Education for Sustainable Development».
The workshop was attended by UN representatives Abdurahim Mukhidov and Vlastimil Samek, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, Professor Aliya Beysenova, Professor Alberto Frigerio of the School of Public Policy and Law; UNESCO International Educational Specialist Line Benete, candidate of economics of School «Finance and Technology» of Narkhoz University Tursyngul Gumarov, PhD, Advisor to the Rector, Head of the Department for Quality Assurance and Strategic Development of Narkhoz University Marina Skiba, heads and teachers of leading universities in Almaty, dealing with the problems of education for sustainable development (SD) and sustainable development goals (SDG).
The first vice-rector of Abai KazNPU Maktagali Bektemesov addressed the audience with a welcoming speech, noting that during the event, topical issues of the implementation of SD and the SDG in the universities of Kazakhstan will be discussed.
At the seminar, a discussion platform was organized, where the following issues were discussed: the greening of education and the development of the spiritual consciousness of young people in the aspect of implementing the «green economy»; the role of universities in the development of a green economy; definition of innovative educational technologies in order to modernize the environmental thinking of young people.
This seminar was held at the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main organizers are the Department of Educational, Social Work and Youth Policy, as well as Institute of Natural Science and Geography - chair of Geography, Ecology and Tourism of Abai KazNPU.
