Activities of the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay 2020-2021 academic year

SDG 17 is implemented under the "partnership" strand.

The educational activities of the University are the basic activities that allow the implementation of the remaining Sustainable Development Goals. KazNPU named after Abay considers the internationalization of education as the creation of conditions in which universities are able to cross-fertilize knowledge, technology, experience, resources and cultural traditions.

International cooperation in the field of education and science is carried out within the framework of international agreements concluded by KazNPU named after Abay with foreign scientific and educational institutions and organizations.

During the academic year 2020-2021 more than 140 international agreements/arrangements were concluded with universities from 33 countries, including 20 agreements with universities included in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (The Academic Ranking of World Universities, ARWU). Among them are such partner universities: (Pennsylvania State University (USA), University of Tsukuba (Japan), Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen and Nuremberg (Germany), Beijing United University (China), etc.).

    Within the framework of the European Union program aimed at promoting modernization and sustainable development of education, vocational training, youth policy and sports Erasmus + KazNPU named after Abay cooperates with 10 universities:

    KazNPU named after Abay cooperates with seven universities of Turkey in the program "Mevlana" in order for both students and teachers to gain experience in a foreign country and improve their level of knowledge:

    In 2020-2021 KazNPU named after Abay carried out a number of international educational projects:
  • American Councils project for 2020 - 2021;
  • UNESCO scientific project implemented jointly with the University of Okayama for 2021-2024 "Promotion of pedagogical education on climate change through cooperation between Asian Centers of Excellence in Education for Sustainable Development" (Japan)
  • project with the University of California at Sacramento (USA) "Evidence-based Teacher Education and Organizational Culture", US-Kazakhstan University Partnership Program grant program;
  • Erasmus+ KAZDUAL project "Implementation of Dual System in Kazakhstan", with the participation of European and Kazakhstani educational institutions and accreditation;
  • the World Bank's project "Russian Development Education Support Program";
  • joint German-Kazakh project GEKAVOC.
    Joint international research projects were implemented in the framework of international programs:
  • 11 Erasmus+ ICM programs with the universities of France, Lithuania, Romania, Germany, Slovakia, Poland and Turkey;
  • 2 DAAD programs with Pedagogical University of Heidelberg;
  • 4 MEVLANA programs with the universities of Niide, Ahi Evran, Marmara, Mugla.

In the academic year 2020 - 2021 the contingent of international students was 333 people (2.6%) from 12 countries.

International students are active participants in cultural, educational, scientific, sports and other events, concerts, festivals, conferences, round tables, forums, seminars, debates, etc.

    In order to strengthen cultural and educational relations with countries through learning the world heritage of the Kazakh people - the creative work of Abay Kunanbaev, 6 international educational Abay Centers were opened in China, Vietnam, Turkey, Russia, Poland:
  • Abay Center at Yili Pedagogical University (PRC, 2011);
  • The Abay Center of Culture and Science at the Hanoi National Pedagogical University (Vietnam, 2013);
  • Abay Center for Culture and Science at Ho Chi Minh Pedagogical University (Vietnam, 2013);
  • Abay Center for Kazakh Language and Culture at Erzincan University (Turkey, 2013);
  • Abay Kazakh-Russian Center for Culture and Science at Moscow Pedagogical State University (Russia, 2019);
  • Abay Center of Kazakh Culture and Science at the Pomeranian Academy in Slupsk (Poland, 2019).

In honor of the 175th anniversary of Abay Kunanbayev various events were held with both local and foreign partners. The total number of events held - 40, among them: round table "Abai and Pushkin" (Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abai and Chinese-Korean companies), international online webinars "Abai and Pushkin - the accord of cultures", "Abai centers - a cultural bridge between countries", "Abai in different languages", "Abai - son of humanity", international round table "Abai recognized by the world", challenge "Kozimnin karasy" performed by foreign students, etc.

External (outbound) academic mobility of students.

    As part of the program of external academic mobility on the basis of bilateral agreements in the spring semester of academic year 2020-2021 30 students were trained in foreign partner universities in a distance learning format:
  • 3 students - online learning as part of the double degree at the University of Lorraine (France) in the spring semester 2020-2021 academic year;
  • 11 students - online training as part of the two-diploma education at the Pomeranian Academy in Slupsk (Poland) in the spring semester of 2020-2021 academic year;
  • 10 students - online learning at Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland) in the spring semester 2020-2021 academic year in a distance learning format;
  • 2 students - online study at the University of Tsukuba (Japan) in the spring semester 2020-2021 academic year;
  • 1 master's student - online learning at Vilnius University (Lithuania) in the spring semester of academic year 2020-2021;
  • 3 students - online learning at Moscow City Pedagogical University (Russia) in the spring semester 2020-2021 academic year.

Internal (incoming) academic mobility of students.

Under the program of internal academic mobility, on the basis of bilateral agreements with regional universities of Kazakhstan in the spring semester 2020-2021 academic year 10 students were trained online in KazNPU named after Abay from Aktobe University named after S. Baishev and Atyrau State University named after H. Dosmukhamedov.

Research internship for undergraduates.

According to the State obligatory standard of postgraduate education from May 13, 2016 № 292, as well as within the framework of the NIRM (EIRM), the individual plan of work of a master student provides for compulsory scientific internship in scientific organizations or organizations, relevant industries or spheres of activity. On the basis of interuniversity agreements 344 undergraduates of Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay underwent foreign scientific internships in online format in such foreign universities as: Vytautas the Great University (Vilnius, Lithuania), Pomeranian Academy of Słupsk (Poland), Moscow City Pedagogical University (Russian Federation).

External (incoming) academic mobility of teaching staff.

Within the framework of the program "Involvement of foreign professors in the RK universities" for the academic year 2020-2021 year 23 foreign lecturers from foreign partner universities were attracted to give lectures and conduct master classes in online format for the students of Kazakh National Pedagogical University after Abai: Sorbonne University (France), Perpignan University Via Domitia (France); Szent István University (Hungary), Omsk Humanitarian Academy (Russia) Tallinn University (Estonia), Maria Grzegorzewska Academy of Special Pedagogy (Poland), Russian University of People's Friendship (RF), Kazan Federal University (RF), Moscow City Pedagogical University (RF), Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Khachatur Abovyan (RF). The following academic institutions are involved in the study: Akdeniz University (Turkey), Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (Belarus), Al-Azhar University (Egypt), Mirzo Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan).

External (outgoing) academic mobility of teaching staff.

Motivation for the teaching staff and employees of the University is the results of competitions and scholarships of various international organizations. 2 lecturers of the "Jurisprudence" Chair within the framework of the program "Involvement of foreign lecturers in Belarusian universities" went to the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (Belarus) to give a lecture in the Spring semester of 2020-2021 academic year.

During the academic year 2020/2021 academic year in the framework of a joint international project, for participation in international symposia, conferences and round tables 27 teachers in their fields of study were trained in eight European universities on external (outgoing) academic mobility University of California Sacramento (USA), University of Lorraine (France), University of Leipzig (Germany), Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (Belarus), Moscow City Pedagogical University (Russia), Istanbul University (Turkey), University of Foreign Languages and Culture (Germany).
